SEID BEREIT! IMMER BEREIT! BE READY! ALWAYS READY!
SOYEZ PRÊT! TOUJOURS PRÊT!
Performance in collaboration with Serge Fabiato
Doreen Uhlig sings, assisted by an interpreter, a patriotic song about her childhood in the former GDR. This
young woman displays an incredible dramatic power; I hear her singing, then reporting about her childhood,
affected by the education model of the GDR, then singing, then reporting and so on. I do not manage it to leave
the room. I am subjected to this Performance. I am affected: I regain myself in the history of this young woman:
as she does, I achieved a rigid education model, I am confined to unconsciously. (...)

With the help of a simultaneous interpreter and getting into a close, almost intimate, contact with the audience
Uhlig remembered her education in the GDR, from 1982, when she was 6 years old, until the time of reunification
of Eastern and Western Germany in 1989. In front of the performer a video is shown on a small monitor.
In the posture of a news presenter Uhlig repeats continuously a rhyme:
always live the sun
always live the sky
always live the mum
and also me always.
What does the school dentist have to do with the flag appeal? Or the 10 Commandments of a Young Pioneer
with the exit of Antje Eichler's mother? What the marriage of the teacher of physics with the start of the Gulf war?
And has there been a coherence between our "Small Trumpeter" and the cosmonaut Sigmund Jähn? The
moment of recollection and the moment of announcement of the recollected, coincide at the moment of speaking.
